Had an amazing week gravel riding with Ben up in the Cairngorms. The weather was absolutely perfect all week, in fact, the first rain we had was when we were waiting to get the train home!
We went up on the sleeper on Sunday night and spent five days wild camping with a night at an airbnb in Fort Augustus and cycling a combination of three routes from Ed Shoote’s book and a circular route across the to Fort Augustus and heading up along Loch Ness and back across to Aviemore.
It was an awesome week although (Brakeless) Ben did have a bit of an issue with, at first, his front brake. On the last day, however, BOTH brakes failed on the descent down Strathdearn towards Tomatin. We couldn’t mend his brakes so we decided to wait for a bus which didn’t turn up, tried to get a taxi but no luck there either, however, a builder who was working on a site next to the bus stop pulled up and offered to take Ben and his bike down to Carrbridge so he could get the train back for one stop back to Aviemore. It was so good of him as he was from Inverness so he went about 15 miles out of his way to help us.
