  • The Prestige

Rubbish! If it wasn’t for the fact we had a large bar of chocolate I would have lost the will to live. Christopher Nolan is a brilliant director Why did he bother making this, the most boring film of the year. I never thought I would say this, but even Scarlett Johannsen failed to stir Continue reading

  • Joyeux Noel

Great film about the truce on Christmas Eve 1914 which took place on the front line during the first world war. Its an incredibly moving film, particuarly in the scenes where the opposing sides start singing Christmas carols from their trenches. 8/10 Continue reading

Had a good weekend which was made longer by the strike on Friday. It was quite convenient actually, as I had loads to do that day and it was lurvely to have a lie in! The Caples came over to stay for the weekend. The weather was generally rubbish so we did lots of lots Continue reading

  • Vacancy

Went to see “Vacancy” with the Corkys tonight. Brief synopsis: Couple break down and book into dodgy motel. They decide to watch some videos which have been left in the room. They discover the films are snuff videos and that they are filmed in the very room they are staying in and that they are Continue reading

  • Its all Over!!

At last the exams are all done! Unfortunately I don’t get the results for my practical exam until Tuesday but I got it all done in the alloted time, it was all wired correctly, the testing results were all good it all worked and it didn’t fall off the wall when the examiner pulled it Continue reading

  • Grow your Own

Went to see a great little British film last night. All about an allotment plot in the North, and how all the old boys react when a group of immigrants are given plots on their site. There were no Oscar winning performances, it was just a nice little film about normal folk. 7/10 Kx Continue reading

  • Songs that Make you Cry

As I’ve got older I’ve turned into a right girls blouse when it comes to music. Throughout my twenties I was alright, there was just one song that brought a lump to my throat and that was the gospel version of U2’s “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”. But now, in my late Continue reading

  • More Exams…

My practical exam starts tomorrow lunchtime and finishes Friday afternoon. There is loads to do, the installation is a bit like what you would have in a workshop. A consumer unit, lights with two switches and 3 plugs all wired in steel conduit and trunking and plus its in a corner so you’ve got to Continue reading

  • Open Gardens

This weekend was Earls Colne Open Gardens. K has been arranging this for four years now and this year we had well over 200 people come to see the 25 gardens which were open. We didn’t open this year, so we were able to go around and actually see all the gardens. I took quite Continue reading

  • I Passed!

Whew! I got a credit pass so I was pretty chuffed. I was worried though, as some of the questions were on topics we have not covered in this years course so all we could do was make an educated guess. Everyone in my class was very annoyed about that and there was lot of Continue reading

  • Little Ginge is on the move!

Yesterday K felt little ginge moving around for the first time. She wasn’t sure how she was going to feel when she felt it but she was pretty blown away. Must feel sooo weird… Continue reading

  • Frequency

Stayed up watching this film until nearly 1am last night as I was still buzzing after college (even k stayed awake!). I have seen it before but every time I see it I enjoy it even more. Its a story about John Sullivan a policeman, who discovers his dads old ham radio and begins transmitting. Continue reading

  • Sundays are Great

I love Sundays. Yesterday we had a good day just hanging out. We couldn’t go out as the midwife was due to visit between 11 – 2 so we were forced to stay at home..(wahey!) It was a gorgeous day so we just mooched in the garden doing a few chores, (but not many) reading Continue reading

  • Midwife Comes to Visit

We met K’s midwife today. I wasn’t really sure what to expect but she’s a really nice girl called Louise. She came to the house so we sat in the garden and went through everything. K’s blood pressure is good, she got to wee on a stick (not sure why but she lit up all Continue reading

  • This is England

Great story about a young lad called Shaun who is taken in by a gang of skinheads. Its all fun until “combo” who is a National Front supporter and has just been released from prison persuades Shaun and some other members of the gang to join him in racist attacks. The acting is superb, particularly Continue reading

  • Deja Vu

Good sci-fi/thriller with Denzel Washington doing time travel. Most surreal moment is when Denzel is driving a hummer wearing a helmet that allows him to see back in time and he is chasing a car that was there 4 days 6 hours ago! 7/10 Continue reading

  • Zodiac

Good film but way way too long. Fincher has done a great job of capturing the time and the acting is very good particularly Mark Ruffalo as the police detective Dave Toschi. But the section of the film where Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal) conducts his own investigation just drags on for ever. I almost lost Continue reading

  • Soggy Days

What a wash out the bank holiday was! We had over 40mm of rain over the weekend. Yesterday we were going stir crazy so we popped out to put the signs up for the open gardens and got completely soaked and to cap it all we had a power cut for 7 hours. What fun! Continue reading
