Bikepacking / Touring up to North Norfolk

Over the last 3 days and two nights I cycled up to the North Norfolk coast meeting and following the Peddars way up to the coast and returning via Kings Lynn and Cambridge. The route was mainly on country roads but about 20 or 30 miles was off road on byways. I was using panniers and wild camping wherever I decided to stop so I might be approaching bikepacking status! It was a great trip though, the first time I’ve done a trip on my own so having to carry everything and the first time I wild camped.

The Peddars way is a mixture of byways and singletracks through the woods. Really nice to have different tracks to cycle rather than just roads all the way.

Riding across the Fens was…… challenging, miles and miles of flat countryside with 20mph headwind!

This was my pitch on the second night. I had quite problem finding a pitch as the fens are so flat there was nowhere you could hide up. In the end, after some faffing, I found this fisherman’s pitch down a track off the cycletrack.

In Bury St Edmunds, I Spotted this house which has been built into the ruins of St Edmunds Abbey.

  1. Sounds wicked! You should come to NZ. So many great rides here you could do. Trying to line a few events up for myself for next year. Started getting back into my cycling now that the roads & tracks are fixed. Going to treat myself to a decent MTB for my 50th – assuming I can get permission!

    1. Glad your getting back into it mate. We’re always thinking of coming back to NZ and I would love to try some of the trails I’ve read about. Hope everyone’s ok and good luck with the Mtb!
